Caudate-putamen


Paradoxically, FAAH levels increased in the hypothalamus and, to a lesser extent, in the prefrontal cortex and the amygdala, but not in the caudate-putamen. By contrast, the levels of CB(1) receptors were markedly reduced in the amygdala and prefrontal cortex of these rats, although no changes were seen in the hypothalamus and the caudate-putamen.  

Risperidone (at 1.0 and 3.0 mg/kg/day) significantly decreased NMDA binding in caudate-putamen of juvenile and adult animals. Risperidone (at 1.0 and 3.0 mg/kg/day) increased AMPA receptors in medial prefrontal cortex and caudate-putamen of juvenile animals, whereas risperidone (at 3.0 mg/kg) increased AMPA receptors in caudate-putamen and hippocampus of adults.  

Adult male prairie voles were transfected with ERalpha in the MeA (MeA-ERalpha) or the caudate-putamen (ERalpha control) or luciferase (MeA-site-specific control), and 3 weeks later tested for spontaneous alloparental behavior and partner preference.  

Met-enkephalin immunoreactive neurons were labeled in the caudate-putamen, intermediated part of lateral septum, lateral globus pallidus, intermediated part of lateral septum, hypothalamus, and amygdala of WT mice.  

In this study, we show that a single cocaine administration (30 mg/kg) time-dependently increases ERK phosphorylation, c-Fos and FosB protein expression, and MKP-1 phosphorylation (p-MKP-1), in the caudate-putamen (CPu) and nucleus accumbens (NAc) of Fischer rats.  

Somatostatin levels were increased after citalopram, but not DMI administration, in the caudate-putamen, hippocampus, nucleus accumbens, and prefrontal cortex.  

Autoradiographic studies explored the effect of l-NNA on the expression of D(1) and D(2) receptors in the caudate-putamen (CPu) and nucleus accumbens (NAcc) at PD60.  

Visuo-spatial deficits are the most consistently reported cognitive abnormalities in Parkinson's disease (PD), and they are frequently associated to motor symptoms in the early stages of the disease when dopamine loss is moderate and still restricted to the caudate-putamen.  

In particular, we analyzed the gene transcripts and proteins expression of CD14 and TLR4, in the substantia nigra and caudate-putamen nuclei of these animals.  

Rat brains were examined 24 h after injection at PND 29 (early adolescence), PND 38 (mid adolescence) and PND 50 (late adolescence) and analyzed for endocannabinoids (anandamide and 2-arachidonoylglycerol), Met-enkephalin, cannabinoid CB(1) receptors and micro opioid receptors (microOR) in the NAc, caudate-putamen and prefrontal cortex (PFC).  

HR/RET double-labeled neurons were abundantly distributed in the substantia nigra pars compacta ipsilateral to the caudate-putamen stereotaxically injected with HRP.  

There is a general inhibition of the UPS in many brain regions (cerebellum, cortex, substantia nigra and caudate-putamen) and skin fibroblasts from HD patients.  

Neurotoxic, cell-specific lesions of the rat caudate-putamen (CPu) have been proposed as a model of human Huntington's disease and as such impair performance on many motor tasks, including skilled forelimbs tasks such as reaching for food.  

Analysis of neural activation across 39 brain regions using Fos immunohistochemistry showed the following results: (1) VEHICLE-SOCIAL and VEHICLE-ALONE groups did not differ in Fos expression, indicating that a social context per se did not affect Fos expression, (2) MDMA-treated groups showed significantly increased Fos expression relative to VEHICLE treated groups in 30 brain regions, (3) the MDMA-SOCIAL group showed augmented Fos expression relative to the MDMA-ALONE group in six brain regions including the caudate-putamen (medial), medial preoptic area, paraventricular thalamic nucleus, central amygdala, ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus, and the medial amygdala (posterodorsal), and (4) the MDMA-SOCIAL group (but not the MDMA-ALONE group) showed augmented Fos expression relative to the VEHICLE groups in the nucleus accumbens, ventral tegmental area and periaqueductal grey.  

Conversely, in HD a selective impairment of mitochondrial succinate dehydrogenase, key enzyme in complex II activity was found in medium spiny neurons of the caudate-putamen.  

In the present study we investigated the effect of selectivity destroyed dopaminergic neurons of the caudate-putamen (CP) on immune reactivity in the rat.  

NBQX markedly attenuated cue-elicited cocaine-seeking behavior relative to vehicle pretreatment in the No Extinction group and also decreased cue-elicited Fos protein expression in a region-specific manner in the anterior cingulate and orbitofrontal cortices, basolateral amygdala, nucleus accumbens core, and dorsal caudate-putamen, suggesting involvement of AMPA glutamate systems in specific subregions of the neuronal circuitry activated by cocaine cues..  

Direct comparison of functional MRI signals obtained during 3:2 or 2:3 and on-the-beat rhythms indicated activation differences bilaterally in the supplementary motor area, ipsilaterally in the supramarginal gyrus and caudate-putamen and contralaterally in the cerebellum.  

Re-exposure to the environment previously associated with cocaine self-administration following 22 h or 15 days of abstinence produced a significant increase in zif/268 and arc, but not c-fos mRNA, in the caudate-putamen and nucleus accumbens.  

Neurochemical evaluation demonstrated a reduction in dopamine levels in the caudate-putamen and nucleus accumbens core and shell as well as an enhanced utilization ratio in the caudate-putamen after both withdrawal periods.

A comparison to recent findings that lesions to the orbitofrontal cortex, which also result in a selective increase in compulsive lever-pressing, lead to a decrease in serotonin and dopamine content in the caudate-putamen suggests that there may be a final common pathway by which different brain pathologies may lead to a pro-compulsive state..  

Phosphorylation of DARPP-32, a marker for dopamine D1-like receptor activation, was elevated within nucleus accumbens and caudate-putamen in neglectful versus nurturing dams.

Expression of dopamine transporter (DAT) and the dopamine D1 and D2 receptor (D1R and D2R) subtypes in the caudate-putamen (CPu) and the nucleus accumbens (Acb) was evaluated by immunoblotting.  

METHODS: We used functional magnetic resonance imaging to examine amygdala activity and functional connectivity with the hippocampus and caudate-putamen during successful encoding--as assessed by a recognition memory probe 1 week after scanning--of negative, neutral, and positive pictures by 14 depressed and 12 nondepressed individuals. The right amygdala was more active and showed greater functional connectivity with the hippocampus and caudate-putamen in depressed than in control participants during encoding of subsequently remembered negative but not neutral or positive stimuli.  

RESULTS: Apomorphine significantly elevated k* in 26 brain regions, including the frontal cortex, motor and somatosensory cortex, caudate-putamen, thalamic nuclei, and nucleus accumbens.  

The striatum can be divided into dorsal (caudate-putamen) and ventral parts.  

Using serial analysis of gene expression, we collected quantitative transcriptome data in 11 regions of the adult wild-type mouse brain: the orbital, prelimbic, cingulate, motor, somatosensory, and entorhinal cortices, the caudate-putamen, the nucleus accumbens, the thalamus, the substantia nigra, and the ventral tegmental area.  

medial orbital area, ventral orbital area, ventrolateral orbital area and lateral orbital area, project to central parts of the caudate-putamen, exhibiting a mediolateral and, to a lesser degree, rostrocaudal topographical arrangement. Orbital projections avoid the most dorsal, as well as rostral and caudal parts of the caudate-putamen. In addition to projections to the caudate-putamen, the ventrolateral, lateral and dorsolateral orbital areas have a scarce projection to the most lateral part of the nucleus accumbens shell in the ventral striatum.  

DARPP-32 protein levels were significantly upregulated in the lateral region of the caudate-putamen exclusively in postweanling mice after chronic cocaine.  

The aim of this work was to study the effects of acute ethanol administration on proenkephalin (proenk) mRNA expression in the rat substantia nigra and caudate-putamen (CP) for up to 24 h post treatment.  

In this study, we measured the subsecond time course of adenosine efflux in the caudate-putamen of anesthetized rats after a 1 s, high-frequency stimulation of dopamine neurons in the substantia nigra.  

Haloperidol decreased GRK3 in ventrolateral caudate-putamen and transiently down-regulated GRK5 in globus pallidus and caudal caudate-putamen. Clozapine also caused a short-term suppression of the GRK5 expression in the caudal caudate-putamen and globus pallidus, but, unlike haloperidol, elevated GRK5 in the caudal caudate-putamen after 24 h. Unlike haloperidol, clozapine decreased arrestin2 and GRK3 in hippocampus and GRK3 in globus pallidus but increased arrestin2 in the core of nucleus accumbens and ventrolateral caudate-putamen and GRK2 in prefrontal cortex. Clozapine, but not haloperidol, induced long-term activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) 2 in ventrolateral caudate-putamen and transient in prefrontal cortex.  

The corresponding record of past neuronal activation in nucleus accumbens and caudate-putamen during repeated drug administration was assessed using FosB immunohistochemistry, while acute neuronal activation on test day was assessed using c-fos in situ hybridization.  

Brains harvested 6 hr after social defeat were dissected into 12 regions (olfactory bulbs, 3 cortical regions [ frontal cortex, cortex above the basal ganglia, cortex above the diencephalon], caudate-putamen, basal forebrain, hypothalamus, hippocampus, thalamus, tectum, tegmentum, and lower brain stem). Neuropeptide radioimmunoassays demonstrated the following statistically significant regional changes in defeated rats as compared with nondefeated rats: CCK-8 was reduced in frontal cortex and cortex overlying diencephalon, the olfactory bulbs, caudate-putamen, hippocampus, tectum, and lower brainstem. Neuropeptide Y was elevated in the caudate-putamen.  

AIM OF THE STUDY: In this report, we investigated the effects of ginsenoside Rg2 on cerebral ischemia-reperfusion induced impairment of neurological responses, memory and caudate-putamen neuronal apoptosis in a vascular dementia (VD) rat model.  

Second, cdk5 and p35 protein levels were unchanged in caudate-putamen, nucleus accumbens and prefrontal cortex of mice displaying locomotor sensitization.  

Changes in the histological morphology of the caudate-putamen (CPu) were determined after a high-dose methamphetamine (METH) exposure in an effort to elucidate whether BBB disruption plays a role in CPu neurotoxicity.  

Individual differences emerged, and these were associated with decreased binding to benzodiazepine receptors, mainly in the limbic structures such as the cingulate cortex (cingulate areas 1 and 2) and caudate-putamen (posterior part) of aggressive animals, suggesting that these areas are pivotal in the control of emotional and aggressive behavior. CONCLUSIONS: Chronic flunitrazepam produces changes in receptor binding in discrete areas of the cingulate cortex and caudate-putamen that are proposed to be part of the mechanisms for increased expression of aggressive behavior..  

Our initial results indicate that aromatase deficiency from early embryonic life significantly impairs the functional integrity of SNpc tyrosine hydroxylase-positive neurons and dopamine transporter innervation of the caudate-putamen in adulthood.  

We explored the role of alpha6beta2*-nAChRs in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) and caudate-putamen (CPu) by observing action potential-dependent DA release from synapses in real-time using fast-scan cyclic voltammetry at carbon-fiber microelectrodes in mouse striatal slices.  

Results showed that the animals first preferred the cue-marked platform, which represents a strategy that was selectively impaired by lesions of the dorsolateral caudate-putamen.  

Saturation equilibrium binding experiments with frozen brain cortex and caudate-putamen membranes of young adult rhesus and human and with cortex and striatum from rat yielded data indicative of specific high-affinity binding (KD=0.1-0.15 nM, n> or =3) to a saturable site previously shown to be metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (mGluR5; Patel S, Ndubizu O, Hamill T, Chaudhary A, Burns HD, Hargreaves RJ, Gibson RE. The density of binding sites (Bmax) measured using [ 18F]F-PEB followed the rank order cortex approximately caudate-putamen/striatum>cerebellum for all three species, with the cerebellum Bmax being significantly lower than that observed in the other regions. Immunohistochemical analysis in brain sections revealed a rank order of staining in rhesus and human brain of cortex approximately caudate-putamen>cerebellum.  

In the caudal caudate-putamen (cCPu) three GRK isoforms (GRK2, 3, 6) were decreased by DA depletion. GRK3 protein was reduced in the rostral caudate-putamen (rCPu), whereas other isoforms were either unchanged or up-regulated.  

Dense localization of NPY and NPY receptors is found in brain areas implicated in psychopathology such as the amygdala, hippocampus, neocortex, septum, caudate-putamen, hypothalamus and locus coeruleus.  

Decreased agonist-stimulated [ (35)S]GTPgammaS binding in the caudate-putamen, nucleus accumbens, and preoptic area occurred only after administration of 10 to 30 to 60 mg/kg THC, and no change was found in the globus pallidus or entopeduncular nucleus after any treatment.  

The results showed an activation of tyrosine hydroxylase gene expression in the ventral tegmental area and the substantia nigra, increased proenkephalin gene expression in the caudate-putamen, nucleus accumbens core and shell, central and medial amygdala, ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus and the paraventricular hypothalamic nucleus. In contrast, a significant decrease in the cannabinoid CB1 receptor gene expression was found in caudate-putamen, central amygdala and ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus.  

Relative numbers of E15-generated neurons were decreased at postnatal day 21 (P21) in the caudate-putamen, nucleus accumbens and frontal cortex but not globus pallidus in the l-DOPA group. TUNEL labeling did not show significant differences on P0, P7 or P14 in the caudate-putamen or frontal cortex, suggesting that cell death was not altered. Although virtually all cells in the P21 brains that were labeled with the E15 BrdU injection were NeuN-positive, stereological analyses showed no significant changes in total numbers of NeuN-positive or NeuN-negative cells in the P21 caudate-putamen or frontal cortex.  

The CB(1) receptor and proenkephalin gene expressions, and CB(1) receptor and mu-opioid (MO) receptor-mediated G-protein activation were found to be significantly lower in the caudate-putamen, nucleus accumbens core and shell of FAAH -/- than +/+ mice.  

In this study, we investigated the effects of aging on synaptic plasticity in brain slices containing the nucleus accumbens (NAc) or caudate-putamen (CPu), using electrophysiological recordings.  

Surgeries involving transplantation of fetal dopamine (DA) neurons into the caudate-putamen of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) have been performed in various clinical trials to examine a potential restoration of motor function.  

Homer 1a and ania-3 were induced in the caudate-putamen by acute administration of aripiprazole 12 mg/kg, while aripiprazole 30 mg/kg had no significant effects. Furthermore, acute haloperidol and GBR12909 induced both the splice variants of Homer 1 in the caudate-putamen.  

In human HD, PDE10A protein levels are significantly decreased in the caudate-putamen of patients with grade 3 HD compared to age-matched controls.  

DAT binding was severely decreased in the ipsilateral caudate-putamen, nucleus accumbens and substantia nigra (all p < 5 x 10(-9)), as confirmed by the behavioral and histological outcomes.  

In our data, synchronized LFF of BOLD signals are found in clustered, bilaterally symmetric regions, including SI and caudate-putamen and the magnitude of the LFF is approximately 1.5%, comparable to the stimulation-induced BOLD signals.  

Similar to other atypical and not typical antipsychotics, JL 13 decreased labeling of NMDA receptors in medial and lateral caudate-putamen (CPu; by 40%).  

Adenosine A2A receptors have a unique cellular and regional distribution in the basal ganglia, being particularly concentrated in areas richly innervated by dopamine such as the caudate-putamen and the globus pallidus.  

ADC values increased in hippocampus, caudate-putamen, substantia nigra and cerebellar cortex, reflecting vasogenic edema.  

RESULTS: Following PROG treatment, stained sections revealed a significant reduction in cortical, caudate-putamen and hemispheric infarct volumes (% contralateral structure) compared to vehicle-injected controls.  

We determined the dose-response relationship for amphetamine-induced psychomotor activity and Fos expression in nucleus accumbens and caudate-putamen 1 week after repeated administration of amphetamine or saline in locomotor activity chambers. Repeated administration of amphetamine enhanced amphetamine-induced locomotor activity and stereotypy and Fos expression in nucleus accumbens, but not in caudate-putamen. In comparison, levels of Fos expression induced by 1mg/kg amphetamine were not altered in nucleus accumbens or caudate-putamen by repeated amphetamine administration in the home cage. Double-labeling of Fos protein and enkephalin mRNA indicates that Fos is expressed in approximately equal numbers of enkephalin-negative and enkephalin-positive neurons in nucleus accumbens and caudate-putamen following injections outside the home cage.  

In addition, exposure to novelty induced NADPH-d in the dorsal hippocampus, the caudate-putamen, all the layers of the somatosensory cortex.  

Intracranial injection of CT-2A cells into caudate-putamen resulted in development of an aggressive tumor showing typical features of human glioblastoma multiforme, sharing close histological, immunohistochemical, proliferative, and metabolic profiles. Finally, CT-2A cells were re-isolated from experimental brain tumors and transcranially re-injected into the caudate-putamen of healthy mice.  

RESULTS: A conventional region of interest (ROI)-analysis indicated that FDOPA uptake (K(i)) in the caudate-putamen was statistically significantly higher in the FDR group than in the control group.  

Aggregate rank order analysis of CB(1) distribution in the brain (pooled from 119 autoradiographic, immunohistochemical and in situ hybridization studies) showed denser HsCB1 expression in cognitive regions (cerebral cortex) compared to RnCB1, which was relatively richer in movement-associated areas (cerebellum, caudate-putamen).  

The OR impairments of single-day mAMPH-treated rats correlated with monoaminergic transporter loss in ventral caudate-putamen, HC, and pRh.  

Intracerebroventricular administration of 500 pmol/day of Ala(1,3,11,15)-ET-1, a selective ETB agonist, for 3 or 7 days increased monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP)-1 and cytokine-induced neutrophil chemoattractant (CINC)-1 mRNA in the caudate-putamen and cerebrum, whereas it had no effects on regulated on activation normal T-cell expressed and secreted (RANTES), fractalkine and stromal cell-derived factor (SDF)-1alpha mRNA expression. Immunoreactive MCP-1 and CINC-1 in the caudate-putamen and the cerebrum were increased by the ETB agonist.  

Electrical seizure activity was recorded in the hippocampal CA1 and CA3 areas, amygdala and caudate-putamen, in rats with iron-induced chronic cortical focal epilepsy.  

The dot-like staining pattern of TRPC5 was observed through the globus pallidus (GP) and caudate-putamen.  

A decrease in dopaminergic D1 receptor (D1R) gene expression in the caudate-putamen (CPu) was associated with amphetamine sensitization in the controls, possibly as a result of a chronic increase in DA release.  

Immediately before being returned to the self-administration chamber, we assessed the effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid agonist inhibition of midbrain DA regions (substantia nigra [ SN] and ventral tegmental area [ VTA]) and striatum (dorsolateral caudate-putamen, nucleus accumbens core, and nucleus accumbens shell) on relapse to cocaine-seeking in the absence of reinforcement. RESULTS: Inactivation of the dorsal caudate-putamen and midbrain regions attenuated cocaine seeking, while inactivation of the ventral striatum had no such effects. However, subsequent sessions under extinction conditions revealed a rebound in cocaine seeking in animals that had undergone inactivation in all regions except the dorsolateral caudate-putamen.  

This was particularly evident for anandamide in the hypothalamus, amygdala and caudate-putamen, for N-palmitoylethanolamine in the caudate-putamen, for N-oleoylethanolamine in the hypothalamus, caudate-putamen and prefrontal cortex, and for N-stearoylethanolamine in the amygdala.  

In contrast, MOR-stimulated [ (35)S]GTPgammaS binding was significantly decreased in most regions examined in morphine pellet+morphine injected mice, including nucleus accumbens, caudate-putamen, periaqueductal gray, parabrachial nucleus, NTS and spinal cord.  

In the caudate-putamen cocaine significantly increased FosB/DeltaFosB IR, but no differences were found between the rats of two lines.  

administration of 500 pmol/day Ala(1,3,11,15)-ET-1, an ET(B) receptor agonist, increased the level of TIMP-1 mRNA in rat hippocampus, caudate-putamen and cerebrum. Ala(1,3,11,15)-ET-1 increased the level of TIMP-3 mRNA in the cerebrum, but not in the hippocampus or caudate-putamen.  

AMPH injection induced an increase in Pro-Enk mRNA expression in the nucleus accumbens and the medial-posterior caudate-putamen in drug-naïve rats. Challenge with AMPH to rats injected 1 week earlier with AMPH induced motor sensitization and increased and decreased Pro-Enk mRNA expression in the prefrontal cortex and the anterior medial caudate-putamen, respectively.  

MDMA-exposed mice also showed a reduced release of basal dopamine in the nucleus accumbens compared with saline-injected animals and a modest increase in D(1) receptor density in caudate-putamen and nucleus accumbens.  

Gene expression was determined in the nucleus accumbens (ACB), amygdala (AMYG), frontal cortex (FC), caudate-putamen (CPU), and hippocampus (HIPP) of alcohol-naïve adult male iP and iNP rats, using Affymetrix Rat Genome U34A microarrays (n = 6/strain).  

In situ hybridization and immunohistochemical analysis demonstrate the expression and localization of LRRK2 to various neuronal populations in brain regions implicated in Parkinson's disease (PD) including the cerebral cortex, caudate-putamen and substantia nigra pars compacta. Immunofluorescent double labeling studies additionally reveal the prominent localization of LRRK2 to cholinergic-, calretinin- and GABA(B) receptor 1-positive, dopamine-innervated, neuronal subtypes in the caudate-putamen.  

This work applied a new analysis approach based on a modified DA kinetic model to analyze the kinetics of electrically evoked DA overflow in the caudate-putamen of anesthetized rats.  

Two days after withdrawal the levels of the dopamine metabolites and dopamine turnover in the caudate-putamen, substantia nigra and prefrontal cortex were reduced by ca. 20-60%, and the binding of [ (3)H]GBR 12,935 to dopamine transporter dropped by 25-40% in the caudate-putamen. Three days after paraquat withdrawal, the level of dopamine in the caudate-putamen was significantly increased, and earlier decreases in DOPAC and HVA in the substantia nigra, as well as [ (3)H]GBR 12,935 binding in the caudate-putamen were reversed. Moreover, an increase in serotonin turnover in the caudate-putamen and prefrontal cortex, and noradrenaline level in the former structure was observed 2-3 days after paraquat withdrawal. Three days after the last paraquat injection 24-35% decreases in the proenkephalin mRNA levels and 5-7% reduction in glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD)67 mRNA were found in the caudate-putamen.  

We measured the effects of cocaine, methylphenidate, 2beta-propanoyl-3beta-(4tolyl) tropane (PTT), fluoxetine, amphetamine, methamphetamine, 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), phentermine and fenfluramine on dopamine and serotonin uptake following electrically stimulated release in mouse caudate-putamen and substantia nigra pars reticulata slices.  

Rats were given vectors stereotaxically, either intraparenchymally into the caudate-putamen (CP) or into the lateral ventricle (LV).  

The densities of TH-ir axon terminals in caudate-putamen (CPU) were significantly decreased in the MPTP-treated groups.  

The MRI studies revealed that SHR had a significantly smaller vermis cerebelli and caudate-putamen (CPu), and there was also a significantly lower level of dopamine D4 receptor gene expression and protein synthesis in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) of SHR.  

We have studied the morphological changes of the dendrites of the pyramidal neurons of the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and the medium spiny neurons of the caudate-putamen (CPu) and nucleus accumbens (NAcc) induced by the injection of 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) into the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc). The results showed that the length of dendrites, the branching, and the density of dendritic spines on the medium spiny neurons of the same side of the caudate-putamen lesion were significantly decreased in rats with the unilateral 6-OHDA-induced lesion of the SNc.  

Our results show that the high affinity dopamine D(2) receptor antagonist haloperidol strongly induces Homer 1 gene expression in the caudate-putamen, whereas quetiapine, a fast D2R dissociating antagonist, does not. Finally, we describe a differential spatial induction pattern of Homer 1 gene within the caudate-putamen by typical antipsychotics and DAT blockers, and propose a novel method to quantitate it..  

beta3 subunit mRNA expression was increased in the caudate-putamen in the postpubertal period (by 37.2%).  

Seven days after MDMA treatment, a substantial decrease in the density of TpH-immunoreactive fibres was detectable in the frontal cortex, the caudate-putamen, the CA1 region of the hippocampus, and marked decreases were found in the spinal cord.  

Although changes in the end-point measure of success document the effects of neurotoxic cellular damage to the caudate-putamen and its treatment in rodents, there has been no examination of the cause of change in success after neurotoxic lesions of the striatum. This objective was addressed in the present study, in which rats trained to reach for single food pellets with one forelimb, received contralateral quinolinic acid or ibotenic acid lesions of the medial and lateral caudate-putamen. The acute dissociation between transport and withdrawal, the chronic qualitative changes in movement elements, and the differential effect of medial and lateral injury on success, support a complex contribution of the caudate-putamen to skilled reaching that includes sensorimotor neglect, and quantitative and qualitative motoric changes..  

Mice were injected with rAAV type 2/1, 2, 2/5, 2/7, or 2/8 via the caudate-putamen and substantia nigra.  

In the short term following chronic PCP treatment, M1/4 binding was significantly increased in regions of the limbic system, caudate-putamen, cortex, and thalamus (ranging from 56% to 368%), compared with saline-treated mice.  

Control injections of CSF into NAcc, and CRF into caudate-putamen, did not facilitate partner preference.
