Welcome to StackVis, a 3D viewer for neuroanatomical sections, originally written by Issac Trotts in consultation with Shawn Mikula in the labs of E. G. Jones at the UC Davis Center for Neuroscience. It is currently maintained by J. Stone.
The 3D trackball camera (Camera|Dimensionality|3D) controls are as follows. Click and drag to rotate. Hold down the shift key and click/drag up and down to move the camera toward or away from its pivot point. The middle mouse button also adjusts the camera distance, as does the scroll button if your mouse has one. To translate, hold down the control key and the left mouse button while dragging the mouse. The field of view can be adjusted by holding down control, shift, and the left mouse button while dragging up and down. This field of view adjustment is essentially the same as adjusting a zoom lens.
When the camera gets too close to the slides, sometimes parts of them start to disappear temporarily because they have passed behind the camera's near clipping plane. If this is a problem, the distance (called znear) from the eye point to the near clipping plane can be adjusted by holding down the control key while rolling the mouse wheel. The value of znear can be monitored by bringing up the heads-up display (View|Heads-Up-Display). Another way to reduce clipping is to move the camera away from the dataset with the mouse wheel and then zoom in (control-shift and click/drag downwards).
The 2D camera mode (Camera|Dimensionality|2D) changes a couple of the controls. Dragging pans the camera and control-drag rotates. Everything else is the same as the 3D camera mode.
The current section is indicated by a black outline. Press Tab and Shift-Tab to move the current section forward and backward. It is also possible to change the current slide by holding down the shift key while moving the mouse wheel.
